Youth Wrestling (Grades 6-8)
Hard Work Pays Off!
Description
Wrestling is a mentally and physically demanding sport, paying dividends in character development, confidence, and athleticism. The cost of that development means there are going to be days that are much harder than others - even days when young wrestlers want to throw in the towel! It's important for kids to not only love the results of their hard work, but also learn to love the process of working hard! Wrestlers in this group are now perfecting the basics and learn increasingly advanced technique. They are also introduced to wrestling theory, all while continuing to develop athleticism. Strong work ethics take root now, along with accountability and personal responsibility. This is a competition team. Wrestlers are not allowed to talk during practice. They learn that there are consequences for goofing off and being disruptive, including being removed from the room. They earn time to play games at the end of practice. They see the direct correlation between their focus/effort and success on the mat. A sense of pride begins to develop, but Coaches continue to emphasize humility. We know win/loss records are not the only insight into our progress. Our wins validate our hard work and commitment. Our losses are viewed as constructive insights into what needs further refining. We understand a loss is an opportunity to grow and excel. We strive to do our best Every Single Day and we feel good about working hard. Rising freshmen who wish to compete for their school and commit to the sport will be promoted to the High School Practice at the beginning of summer. Our High School / Elite program is designed for high-level, advanced wrestlers. While a life-long wrestling background is not required to qualify for this group, a strong work ethic and commitment to the sport as well as one's training is mandatory. Work ethic and dedication are the preeminent factors in the Coach's determination of a wrestler's readiness for the High School / Elite program. Our goal is to prepare wrestlers for their high school season, national level competition and beyond.
