Youth Wrestling (Grades 3-5)

Love the Sport!

Description

Our primary goal for this age group is cultivating a love for the sport, followed very closely by building a strong foundation of technique. We are still having fun while we learn. Wrestlers are proficient at the basics and begin learning more advanced technique while continuing to develop athleticism. They learn to work hard in practice and feel a sense of pride and satisfaction when they do well. They see that their focus and effort in practice translates to success in competition. Competition is an important tool that teaches valuable lessons and is encouraged for this group. Coaches emphasize humility. Wins are celebrated as validation of what wrestlers are doing well. Losses are viewed as constructive insights into what needs further refining. We learn that losses are opportunities to grow and excel. Win/loss records are never the primary insight into our progress. Effort, improvement, and good sportsmanship remain the chief focus and are praised. We learn that it feels good to do our best!
